Anubad Sahitya Puraskar handed over
The Bangla Translation Foundation and Panjeree Publications Ltd jointly handed over the ‘Anubad Sahitya Puraskar 2023’ at a programme held at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday.
Writer-translator Professor Abdus Selim received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Professor Abhijit Mukherjee, writer-translator Mashiul Alam and translator Marzia Rahman received the Book of the Year Award at the programme.
Abdus Selim received the award for his contribution to Bangla literary translation while Abhijit Mukherjee and Mashiul Alam received the award in Translation of Foreign Literature into Bangla category, and Marzia Rahman received in Bangla Literature into Foreign Languages category, said a press release.
Presided over by writer-translator and president of Bangla Translation Foundation Professor Khaliquzzaman Elias, poet and translator Professor Kaiser Hamidul Haq was present as chief guest at the award-giving ceremony.
The foundation also organised a conference, which was inaugurated by cultural affairs secretary Khalil Ahmed, said a press release.
The founder of the foundation writer-translator Anisuz Zaman, its vice-chairman writer Shahab Ahmed and publisher of Panjeree Publications Kamrul Hasan Shayok delivered welcome speech at the programme, which was anchored by general secretary of the foundation Mojaffor Hossain.
Besides, Bangla Academy director general Muhammad Nurul Huda, poet Shamim Azad, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Habibur Rahman, freedom fighter Nurun Nabi, children’s book authors Amarendra Chakrabarty and Lutfor Rahman Riton, among others, were present as special guests at the programme.
The translation foundation also organised a discussion on translation. Presided over by Professor Fakrul Alam, professors Abhijit Mukherjee, Rasid Askari, Rafique-um-Munir Chowdhury, Shafiqul Islam, translator Javed Hussen and Bonnie Chau attended the discussion.
The winner of the Anubadak Ajiban Sammanana received Tk 1,00,000 while the winner of Barshasera Anudita Boi received Tk 50,000.
Besides, a literary magazine on translation named Juktaswar was unveiled at the programme.
